I use a small iron on to which I melt brightly coloured wax and apply it to glossy card. Painting with an iron instead of a conventional paintbrush is an unusual technique and one I loved from the moment I tried it. Stepping away from my logical mind I guide the iron as it moves the molten wax over the card. The wax hardens within seconds and seems to have a mind of its own. Intriguing images appear and the results never fail to excite and amaze me.

I love to work with combinations of bright colours and many of my paintings include the seven colours of the rainbow, each of which can be consciously used to balance the body’s energy centres (chakras).

My paintings are infused with a magical combination of powerful colour energies and calming, refreshing and inspiring energies from the natural world – vibrations from the sea-shore, from plants and trees and from the light of the full moon.

On occasion I have tried to include a specific image in a painting with limited success. Painting with a small iron makes detail difficult to paint. When the hot iron touches the card, any wax already applied will melt and the painting will instantly change. This happens to parts I don’t want to change! So, I prefer to go with the flow, to step aside from my logical mind and let my intuition and the wax determine the final picture.

As I work on each painting my intention is to produce a piece of art which radiates positive, uplifting energies There are no hidden meanings, only the emotions and thoughts that the art evokes in you.
Encaustic painting is sometimes called psychic or spiritual art because individuals see different images in the wax depending on their mood and emotions at any particular time. Enjoy the energy in the piece and let the colours and shapes speak to your imagination. The images you see often change from day to day. Art is like music without words, it by-passes the logical mind and speaks directly to the heart.
